The UEFA Champions League is back and after such an exciting season last time I’m pretty sure we can’t wait for the stage where the legends and the masters of the game from various leagues in Europe meet each other and fight for their name to be written down in history. The qualification stage is for the teams that receive indirect entry to the stage. Higher placed teams in their domestic leagues get direct entry and every league has a fixed number of spots in the Champions league. CONTENDERS OF THE 2016-17 SEASON
Real Madrid, who is the defending champion will be very confident and will be entering the competition with a high. They have a very complete team and haven’t added anyone to their squad. The only addition to their squad will be Alvaro Morata and some talented youngsters from their youth squad. They will be hoping to ride on the brilliance of their manager Zidane and go into the competition with confidence in each other. They will hope to add more silverware to their trophy cabinet by looking to another Champions League trophy to their cabinet. Their players like Pep and Ronaldo will want to continue from their Euro success and Bale will be waiting to continue where he left off at the Euros.
Barcelona missed out on the Champions League last season but was a success in the La Liga, though they would like to catch up onto their national rivals, Real Madrid on the European stage. They undoubtedly have the most talented attacking trio in the world with Messi, Neymar and Suarez infront and they have also signed a couple of players so that they can increase their squad depth. They have signed talented centre back Umtiti from PSG to partner their reliable Pique. It’s very good to see that their coach has looked into the problems of last season and solved them which mean that they mean business this season.
Bayern Munich definitely seems more dangerous this season with the addition of one of Europe’s biggest talents, Renato Sanchez and one of the best defenders in the world, Mats Hummels. Hummels will give them the stability that they require this season and his partnership with Boateng is probably the best on paper right now. Their squad is balanced with midfielders like Alonso and Vidal and attackers like Robben, Ribery, Lewandowski and Thomas Mueller. They also have the most complete goalkeeper in the world between the sticks. The signing of new manager was an icing on the cake as he is known as the master of this competition having won it with various teams previously both as a manager and a player and his tactical flexibility will come into play.
We would like to mention some other clubs to look out for like Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, PSG and Juventus.
